Community Partners

We at SPCA Cincinnati are grateful for the invaluable support of our community partners, who work alongside us to fulfill our mission. We couldn't do what we do without you.

Your Local Animal Shelter

The SPCA Cincinnati is your Cincinnati Hometown animal shelter and has been for 150 years. When you ask, “Who is the SPCA near me?”, you’ll find us, with solutions for everything animal-related — from pet adoptions to vaccination clinics. We provide compassionate care for any animals that come to us, from food to medical care, exercise, enrichment, and love to get them ready to go to their new homes.

We are the pet placement experts locally and across our nation, making the SPCA Cincinnati the place to go for adopting cats and dogs, as well as small animals.

We do all we can to support people so that pet surrender is a last resort, such as providing pet food donations for those under financial strain and behavioral training. We partner with human social service agencies to keep pets in their current homes and to improve their quality of life. We value innovative educational techniques to keep pets and families together, enrich shelter life, promote the humane treatment of all animals, and prevent pet overpopulation.

Our work is made possible through the compassion and generosity of donors — caring friends like you.

There has been a Schiff family member involved with SPCA Cincinnati for nearly 50 years. Currently that member is Tom Schiff, a recipient of the PB Johnston Humane Care award. Tom has been a generous contributor and friend to staff and furry friends. There isn’t an event he does not support, even helping design a special event recognizing donors in his own home.

Leadership

The staff and volunteers of the SPCA Cincinnati strive to give the animals in their care the best humane treatment and to continuously offer and develop programs to support those who own and care for animals.

The SPCA Cincinnati offers many programs and services, including animal adoptions, animal cruelty investigations, spaying and neutering shelter animals, animal rescue, foster care, obedience training, and the area’s most extensive humane education program. The SPCA Cincinnati also works to introduce animals into the lives of people in our community, including those in hospitals, nursing homes, children’s homes, and schools, and works with victims of domestic violence to both provide shelter for their animals, and to help them rehabilitate.

Animal Summary

Thanks to our Adopters, Contributors, and Volunteers, the SPCA Cincinnati has been able to sustain our family-friendly adoption fees to help save more animals' lives. We are open 356 days a year, totaling 2,136 hours, to serve the Tri-State.

The SPCA Cincinnati History & Future

Founded in 1873, the SPCA Cincinnati has a long history of service to the Greater Cincinnati community. Originally founded as the Ohio Humane Society, it was the first organization of its kind in Ohio. In 1907, the name was changed to The Hamilton County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and is currently known as the SPCA Cincinnati.

For a century and a half, the SPCA Cincinnati continues to build a culture of trust within our community and with local government by unceasingly demonstrating our expertise and leadership. Our organization positively affects the lives of more than 12,000 homeless pets each year.

We’re so proud to celebrate 150 years of service to our community! Learn more about activities and events to honor our past and shape our future together.

It would be hard to find a more loyal, supportive and generous friend to SPCA Cincinnati than that of Local 12, Cincinnati’s CBS affiliate television station. Since 1988, SPCA staff have brought dogs and cats into the homes of hundreds of thousands of viewers annually to promote their adoption, and the continued support of animal welfare through our annual Adopt-a-Pet Fund TV show (telethon). The hundreds of thousands of dollars raised through the telethon have supported our efforts to care for unwanted and homeless animals in the Tri-State.

Being Married with Microphones allows Chris O’Brien and his wife, Janeen Coyle together to talk about one of their most precious causes, animal welfare. Adopted pet owners themselves, their care and concern for animals shines through every Wednesday morning during “Franks Friends,” one of the most popular radio segments in the Tri-State. Frank was a Pug-not just any Pug, just ask Janeen who wrote a children’s book about him. Frank passed away and within weeks, SPCA Cincinnati had found his earthly successor, Tank. Janeen and Tank are inseparable, as is our relationship with this fun-loving and supportive couple who rarely turn down a request to emcee, judge a contest or present an award at our special events.

Our friends at La Mega on WOXY 97.7 FM have been wonderful supporters of the SPCA Cincinnati's animals and mission. La Mega is the first and, at present, only FM radio station in the Cincinnati market broadcasting primarily in Spanish. The station plays a mix of Spanish pop and rock, regional Mexican, and tropical Latin music along with featuring the latest local events, news, contests and promotions.
